DO YOU SPONSOR EMPLOYEES ON 457 VISAS?

Sponsors of Employees on Temporary Resident 457 visas are responsible for all medical, hospital and medical repatriation expenses incurred in Australia by these employees.

To ignore these risks is to play 457 visa roulette. It becomes a matter of luck. A sponsored employee may not become ill or have an accident, but there is always the risk of a major claim event.

This risk can be managed using properly structured self-insurance or by transferring risk to a health insurer.

A Sponsor may choose to transfer medical and hospital and risk using a health insurance policy underwritten by a registered health benefits organisation.

The Sponsor can choose a partial risk transfer or total risk transfer to a health fund policy. There is an important difference between these two levels of risk transfer. Read more on our transfer risk page.
